Peter McGregor is considered London's first settler, first inn keeper and first entrepreneur.  He appeared on the scene at the fork of the Thames in 1825 and built a house where the corner of King Street and Ridout Street is today.  Before that, he lived in Byron.

McGregor was a Scottish tailor who seemed to be involved in just about every activity concerning the building of the new village of London in the 1820's and 30's.  He was married to Lavina Pool, from Westminster and she was really the energetic inn keeper in the family.

In 1832, three members of McGregor's family died of cholera.   Later in the year, after these sad personal tragedies, he moved to a farm in Westminster Township where he died at the age of 52 in 1846.  He is buried in the Scottsville Cemetery, south of Lambeth on Highway 4 and you can still visit his gravesite today.  An historic plaque marks the site.

There is no known picture or painting of McGregor.
